Beyond the Pages: A Journey to Paradise
Characters:
- Dima: A curious and imaginative young girl with a love for mysteries.
- Mrs. Regales: A wise and kind-hearted language arts teacher with a penchant for drama.
- Swahn: A skeptical but loyal friend to Dima, often analytical.
- Noltda: An older, knowledgeable figure, slightly eccentric but deeply insightful.
Scene Setting:
- A simple, almost mystical schoolyard with a single ancient-looking book upstage right. Sunlight filters through tall, old trees, casting a serene glow.
[Scene 1]
(Dima and Swahn enter from downstage left. Dima's feet sparkle with delicate jewelry. They walk towards the mysterious book.)
Swahn: (with a half-smile) "Oh hey Dima, how's your adventure-filled day?"
Dima: (brightly) "Good, thank you! And how are you, Swahn? Still deciphering the mysteries of the world?"
Swahn: (shrugging) "Same old. But you seem lost in thought since we discussed Hemingway and Chopin. Couldn't tell the old man was drunk, huh?"
Dima: (laughing) "I thought he was just thirsty! And Mrs. Mallard's shock... who could've guessed her husband wasn't really dead!"
Swahn: "You have a unique perspective, Dima. It's not always about the literal."
(They reach the book. Dima flips through the pages.)*
Dima: (awe-struck) "This... it's like a timeline, predicting the future! Look, Swahn, it says we can travel to 'the other side' to find paradise."
Swahn: (dubiously) "Another side? Paradise? Sounds like a fantasy."
Dima: "We should show Mrs. Regales. She'll know what to do!"
(They exit with the book. Mrs. Regales enters, reading a dramatic novel.)*
[Scene 2]
(Dima and Swahn return, book in hand.)
Mrs. Regales: (absorbed in her book) "Oh, the drama in this! Perfect for my next class play."
Dima: "Mrs. Regales, we need your insight on something extraordinary."
Mrs. Regales: (curiously) "What's this about?"
Dima: "This book... it promises a journey to another world, a paradise."
Mrs. Regales: (skeptical yet intrigued) "A charming notion, but other worlds are figments of our imagination."
Swahn: "But what if it's real? This book is ancient, mysterious!"
Mrs. Regales: "Why not discuss this with Noltda? His wisdom surpasses many mysteries."
(Dima and Swahn hurry off. Mrs. Regales exits, lost in her book.)
[Scene 3]
(Dima and Swahn find Noltda about to leave.)
Dima: "Noltda, could you help us unravel a mystery?"
Noltda: (smiling) "Of course! What's the enigma?"
Swahn: "This book talks about a paradise on 'the other side.' How do we get there?"
Noltda: "Ah, the quest for utopia. Let's close our eyes and envision paradise."
(They close their eyes. Soft, ethereal music plays.)*
Swahn: (smiling) "I see a world of endless treats, laughter echoing."
Dima: "I'm surrounded by friends, basking in warm sunlight."
Noltda: "I envision my future, full of achievements and joy. My family beside me, guiding me."
(They open their eyes, bewildered yet enlightened.)
Dima: "It felt real, as if we touched another reality."
Swahn: "But how did we see such different things?"
Noltda: "Our minds create our paradise. It's unique to each of us."
Swahn: (relieved) "So, no teacher's pet here. We're all explorers in our own way."
Dima: "You're wise, Noltda. And Swahn, maybe you're not just about logic after all."
Noltda: (chuckling) "Off you go, young dreamers. Your families await."
(Dima and Swahn exit, chatting excitedly. Noltda leaves in the opposite direction.)
The End
