Contemplating the Ephemeral: A Poetic Journey Through Life and Beyond

In the quiet moments of reflection, poetry becomes a vessel for our deepest thoughts and existential musings. Today, I share with you a poem of my own creation, "Life is but a Dream," a contemplation of life's transient nature and the inevitability of our ultimate journey.

The poem begins with a metaphorical descent down a stream, a representation of life's flow, where experiences are as fluid and unpredictable as the water's course. The sighting of a "jumping bean" and the appearance of Jay Sean in the verse symbolize life's random, sometimes whimsical encounters. These images paint life as a tapestry of varied and unexpected events, each adding color and movement to the journey.

As the poem progresses, it delves into the theme of impermanence. The lines "My cells are going to diffusion / Parts and pieces are falling from me" speak to the inevitable process of disintegration that all life faces. This imagery of "debris" evokes a sense of gradual loss, a poignant reminder of our mortal, fragile nature.

The poem then confronts the end – "the end / Of the dividend." Here, life is likened to a dividend, a temporary reward or benefit that inevitably ceases. The following lines, "My life is falling / Here I am stalling," express a human desire to pause or slow down the inexorable march of time, a universal sentiment in the face of mortality.

As the poem nears its conclusion, it presents a stark realization: "The person next to me / I have no right to see." This line captures the solitary nature of our final journey, a path we must all walk alone, regardless of the connections we've made in life.

In its closing, the poem embraces a profound acceptance: "Death has conquered me / Now I am Free." In death, the poem suggests, there is liberation – a release from the constraints and burdens of the physical world. It's a poignant acknowledgment of death not just as an end, but as a transition to a different state of being.

"Life is but a Dream" is a meditation on life's fleeting moments, the inevitable dissolution that comes with time, and the paradoxical freedom found in the finality of death. It invites readers to ponder the beauty and brevity of life, to appreciate the present, and to embrace the mystery of what lies beyond.

In sharing this poem, I hope to offer a space for reflection and a reminder of the poetic beauty inherent in our existence. Life, in all its complexity, is a journey worth savoring, every step imbued with meaning and purpose, leading us to an ultimate liberation that is as enigmatic as it is inevitable.
